Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a good week! The big news from me this week is that I’ve got Aimee Hawley’s sketch for her standard cover of No Spell Lasts Forever #1 to share with you! Scroll down to see it. And as always, check out my video and/or keep reading for all the news.
Okay, so last week I shared the final version of Elena Ominetti’s variant cover (check it out here), which I’m super excited about. I even had a t-shirt made up for myself using her line art for it.
So this week, I wanted to share the sketch for Aimee Hawley’s standard cover, which she’s working on as we speak! I really love how dynamic her composition is, and I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished! You can see Rosette there in the front, and the supporting cast behind her.
As we get closer to the launch of the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1 on October 4, I’m getting more and more nervous! But also more and more excited, so it’s a good thing. If you haven’t followed the campaign on Kickstarter, you can do that here. Signing up makes the Kickstarter algorithm happy, which can help to drive traffic to the page.
I also wanted to let you know that Concrete Arcanum is live on Kickstarter right this very second! It’s the urban fantasy anthology that the talented artist Sara Setna and I have a story in called Olive and the Ogre. The anthology is 120 pages and includes work from 35 creators. I’ve really had fun being a part of this project. All the stories are awesome, and they’re all so different!
As far as comics I’m reading, I’m continuing on with Scott Snyder’s Batman run (How many times have I said that now? I think roughly 10,000. He had a very long run). I finished Dark Nights: Metal a few days ago. It’s by Snyder, Grant Morrison, Joshua Williamson, and James Tynion IV, with art by Howard Porter, Jorge Jimenez, Yanick Paquette, Doug Mahnke, and Greg Capullo. The one thing that keeps bugging me is that it’s not Dark Knights. I mean, right?
But I enjoyed it. It’s one of those stories where the stakes are enormous, like fate-of-existence huge. And those stories are definitely fun but I wouldn’t say they’re usually my favorite because, by virtue of what they are, they have to be more plot-driven than character-driven. When it comes to Batman, I prefer the detective stories and the ones involving the Bat Family. And in Snyder’s run, I’ve really loved Eternal, Zero Year, Endgame, etc. But for the kind of story Metal is, I liked it a lot. Wonder Woman has some powerful moments, which I enjoyed. Moments like this:
I also finally got around to starting Too Much Coffee Man’s Guide for the Perplexed, by Shannon Wheeler. I’ve actually laughed out loud several times. His sense of humor is so dry and sarcastic, and I really appreciate it.
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
