Hey There,
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a good week. The exciting update I want to share with you this week is that Aimee Hawley is finished with the line art for the standard cover of No Spell Lasts Forever #1! Scroll down to see it. And also scroll down for details on the Bookshop.org digital gift card giveaway! As always, feel free to keep reading and/or check out my video for all the news.
Okay, so a while back, I shared Elena Ominetti’s beautiful variant cover, which you can take a look at here. And last week, I shared Aimee’s sketch for the standard cover. So I wanted to give you an update and share the line art.
As always, I’m so impressed with Aimee’s work. I love the composition she’s got going on here, and it’s so cool to see the comic’s major players all together like this! I’m super excited for the final version, and I’ll be sure to give you all a preview before I share it with the world!
Now, for the giveaway! As of writing this, we’ve got 24 people following the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1 on Kickstarter. I’d love to drive up that number as much as possible before the launch on October 4. So if we can get that up to 32 by next Thursday, September 29, I’ll randomly select one Killer Tater Tots subscriber to win a $25 Bookshop.org gift card! Use it to buy any book or graphic novel of your choosing. The winner will be notified by email.
Here’s the pre-launch page where you can sign up before next Thursday.
I also wanted to share again another page from Olive and the Ogre! This is the fourth and last page of the story, and I love how Sara Setna’s artwork really captures the mood I was going for. It’s the moment that captures what’s so important and special about the new friendship between Olive and Glarf, and Sara’s art is just perfect! The Kickstarter campaign for Concrete Arcanum, the urban fantasy anthology that Olive and the Ogre will appear in is live on Kickstarter right now! We’re a little over 40% funded, which is great for this stage in the campaign, but we could definitely use your support if you’re into urban fantasy comics!
Okay, here’s that page.
As far as comics I’m reading…you guessed it! I’m still going with Scott Snyder’s Batman run. I’m up to The Batman Who Laughs, by Snyder, Jock, and Eduardo Risso. I’m really enjoying it! It’s tugging at my heartstrings to see Bruce in such a dark headspace. I mean, look at this! Threatening people’s loved ones is definitely not standard Dark Knight protocol!
I also finished Too Much Coffee Man’s Guide for the Perplexed, by Shannon Wheeler, and it surpassed my expectations! I knew it would be sarcastic and funny, but I didn’t realize how deep it would get! It’s the perfect blend of snark and really meaningful insight.
And I read an old Conan Saga comic from 1987 that I picked up at a flea market. It’s by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, and it gave me real, old-school Saturday morning cartoon vibes. It was very He-Mannish, which was fun. And not just because they both feature big, muscley dudes. There’s that particular brand of really melodramatic heroism that shaped a lot of stuff back then — and I say that with love!
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
