Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week. As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on scrolling for all the updates!
So I have some pretty exciting news this week…Aimée has finished the art for No Spell Lasts Forever #1!!! Of course, it all looks amazing. And that means the digital comic will be going out to Kickstarter backers by the end of the week! Woohoo!
Right now, I’m going over my lettering to look for typos, and double-checking to make sure there aren’t any other last-minute edits that need to be done. Once I’ve finished that, I’ll get the final pdf put together and sent out!
I’m also going to be sending the files to the printer this week, so for backers who are getting a physical copy of the comic, that process should be getting underway soon, too.
After backers have had a chance to read it, the comic will be available for everyone else to find in a few ways:
I’ll be publishing the comic digitally in short episodes of probably about 3-5 pages on the Substack and on Webtoon.
I’m going to add a paid tier to the Substack. Once all the short episodes are published, I’ll make the full digital comic available to paid subscribers.
The full, physical comic will be available to buy on Lulu.com. It’s an on-demand printing service that I used to publish a book of poetry a while back. It works well for me right now because I’m not to the point yet where I’m able to be ordering a lot of print runs or managing a store, though I’d like to potentially do that down the line.
It’s really exciting to have the comic out in the world! It has taken a lot of work to get here — and also a lot of overcoming self-doubt. To quote Star Trek: Enterprise, it’s been a long road getting from there to here. And it’s so gratifying to see it all coming together. Thank you again to all of you for your continued support and interest in my work, it means the world to me!
Ok, as far as comics I’m reading this week, it has pretty much been all Monstress all the time. I’m now up to Volume 6 and I’ll just say that Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda are amazing talents! As the story goes on, the world it’s set in just keeps getting more complicated. And that could become confusing or start to feel convoluted for the reader, but Liu is such a fantastic writer that instead, the growing complexity makes the worldbuilding feel more textured and nuanced. Plus, Kippa continues to be the sweetest little fox child ever!
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
