Hey Everyone!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week! Ok, so I got some amazing news earlier this week (read on to find out more!) and I was so excited about it I didn’t mention in the video that the fifth and final episode of No Spell Lasts Forever #1 is now available to read for free on my Substack and on GlobalComix!
Next week, I’ll launch the paid Substack tier and the full digital issue will be available to paid subscribers. And I’ll have more info in the next email about what else will be included in the paid tier, so stay tuned for that!
And for all the rest of my updates, feel free to keep on reading and/or check out my video!
So like I said, I have some SUPER EXCITING news! I was chosen as the winner of the Negative Space Women’s Comic Book Writing Competition, for the script for Scorned April #1! It is really an amazing vote of confidence! And I’m pretty emotional about it, actually. It feels like all the work I’ve been putting into this script and into growing as a writer is really starting to take me where I want to go. And there’s also a part of me that feels like I must have somehow fooled the judges into thinking the script is better than it is, lol. I guess that’s imposter syndrome for ya!
I’ll get three editing sessions with some pretty incredible editors — Heather Antos, Sarah Litt, and Brittany Matter. Heather Antos was previously at Marvel and is now an editor at IDW. Sarah Litt was previously at DC and is now an editor at Ahoy Comics. And Brittany Matter is an editor who has worked on comics like The Intrepids and Jupiter Jet and the Forgotten Radio, and writes for Marvel.com, CBR, and other outlets. And the synopsis of the comic will be featured on the Negative Space site. It’s all very exciting!! Here’s a pic of me enjoying a celebratory cupcake!
In project news, I’ve mostly been editing the later issues of Scorned April this week, and I think they’re getting pretty close to being done (or as done as they’re ever going to be!). I’ve also been doing some preliminary stuff to set up the merch store with No Spell Lasts Forever designs, and doing some BTS Substack stuff to get ready to launch the paid tier.
As far as comics I’m reading, I’ve been making my way through Batman: The Black Casebook. It’s a collection of old stories from the 50s and 60s that inform Grant Morrison’s Batman run, specifically Batman: R.I.P. These stories are so quirky and weird, and I love it! It’s funny that things like Batman’s many-colored suits actually exist in this old continuity! I mean, Bruce knows how to rock green, am I right?
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
