Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a good week! I’m still reeling from the incredible launch of No Spell Lasts Forever #1 on Tuesday! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for all the latest news!
Whew! I. cannot. believe how successful the launch of No Spell Lasts Forever #1 has been! So successful that we’re actually closing in on being fully funded! I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone who pledged and shared the project, and to all of you for coming back and reading these emails week after week, and giving me encouragement and advice. I definitely couldn’t have gotten here without such an amazing community! THANK YOU times infinity!
If you haven’t pledged yet, you can support the campaign here.
And there are more goodies coming your way if you pledge, or if you’ve already pledged!
At the time that I recorded the video, we were at 39 backers. But things move fast in the world of Kickstarter! We’re now at over 40 backers. And since we’ve passed both the 30 and the 40-backer benchmarks, everyone who has pledged or will pledge $5 or more will get a digital copy of both of these awesome comics:
Sinners #1 by Simon Birks and Roy Huteson Stewart. It follows Hope, who finds herself in a strange place and encounters a mysterious limo driver, who gives her the task of gathering sinners. Read about it here.
Conceptual Heist #1 by Jay D'Ici and Matt G. Gagnon. Jemma Heiss is an art thief in the year 2090, and she's about to pull off one of the biggest and most daring thefts of her career. An action-packed opening to the first story arc sees Jemma turn her recon work turn into a rush job that almost gets her caught. Read more about it here.
Plus, now that we’re closing in on being fully funded, it’s time to start looking toward the stretch goals! If we hit $1,500, we’ll be able to commission some designs for merch! Aimee Hawley’s character designs are so beautiful, and it would be pretty amazing to see Rosette, Bash, and the others on t-shirts, coffee cups, and other fun items!
Also, if we hit $2,000, I’ll be able to do a paper upgrade for the printed comics. I’m planning to print the comic on standard, uncoated paper but I’d love to upgrade either to a more deluxe uncoated stock or glossy. It’s not as flashy as the awesome merch, but it’s still exciting — at least to me!
And while we’re talking indie comics, I wanted to share another project with you that I’m really excited about! It’s The Alchemist of Aurillia by Melissa J Massey. The art is fantastic, and if you’re a fantasy fan (which you probably are if you’re following NSLF!), you’ll love the story! Here’s a little more about it:
Welcome to a world of vengeful witches, powerful djinn, and lost history with an Ottoman-Turkish twist! Nuriye and her familiar Shale live peaceful lives in the kingdom of Denilara, learning magic under the royal wizard Master Ekber. But all that changes when the palace is invaded by two mysterious creatures...
And check out these covers! So bright and pretty!
Take a look at issues #1-3, which are live on Kickstarter this very moment!
As far as comics I’m reading, I finished up Dark Nights: Death Metal, by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, and FCO Plascencia. And you know what that means?? I’m done with the Scott Snyder Batman run!! It’s a little bittersweet. I’ve enjoyed it and I’m sad it’s over.
Death Metal was really powerful! Like I’ve said before, the huge events aren’t always the stories that resonate with me the most because they often have to be so plot-driven, which means there’s not always as much room for the character moments that I love. But Death Metal really hit me, especially the conclusion. Wonder Woman’s role in it was particularly powerful. Plus, everyone is 100 percent living their best hair life! I mean, look at these gorgeous tresses!
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
