Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week! If you haven’t followed the pre-launch page for Faster Than Light Vol. 2, now is the time to do it! The campaign launches in two weeks, on July 15, and you don’t want to miss it!
We’ve got 9 gorgeous stories, plus an extra digital bonus story written by me! And the campaign will have some exciting rewards, like enamel pins, vinyl decals, and more. Plus, if we hit our highest stretch goal, we’ll print the book as a beautiful, perfect-bound trade!
I wanted to share the first page of Universal Language, one of the stories in the book, It’s written by Brittany Matter, with art by Dom Monette and letters by Lydia Monette. You might recognize that third panel as the header image from the campaign from Faster Than Light Vol. 1. The team created a whole story around the family in that image!
I also had a chance to chat with Sean Wynn about the book on his show 5 Questions With Cerius Blaq. I’ve been on it twice now and I really enjoyed it each time. Check it out!
In other news, I’ve been working with the team of the Zelda Awards to start planning everything that needs to happen to make the Awards as amazing as they can be. ICYMI, the Zelda Awards, which will be presented next spring, were recently founded by the talented comics writer and artist Karla Medrano, a.k.a. Moon the Storyteller, who invited me to be on the judging and organizing committee. They’re named after Zelda Jackie Ormes, the first Black woman cartoonist in the United States, and they honor women in indie comics in a wide range of categories. It’s important to note the Awards will recognize ALL women, not just cis women. I’m truly honored to be a part of this and I can’t wait to share more about it as our planning progresses.
And as far as stuff I’m reading this week, I just finished X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills. It’s really powerful, and a great encapsulation of everything the X-Men are about. It’s a classic for a reason! If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.
Well, that’s it from me for now! As always, you can find me on social @sarahccomics, and I hope to connect with you there! And again, if you have a minute to follow the pre-launch page for Faster Than Light Vol. 2, it would be much appreciated!
Best,
Sarah
