Hey There,
Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a great week. As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for the latest updates.
I know you’re all waiting on my emails with bated breath, so you might have noticed this week’s newsletter is a day late. But there’s a good reason for that! I was waiting for a very exciting piece of news to be made public today. And now that it has been officially announced, I can let you all know that I was chosen as Mad Cave Talent Search’s winner in the writing category!! You can read more about it here.
I am incredibly excited about this! It’s a huge honor and I’m beyond flattered. What this means is that I’ll be writing a project for Mad Cave that’s scheduled to be published next year. I don’t have any more details about it yet, but as soon as they tell me and it’s ok for me to share it, I’ll let you all know.
What I do know is that I’ll be working with Leo Chiola, Maksim Strelkov, and Adel E. Talemi, the winning artist, colorist, and letterer, respectively. I’m really looking forward to collaborating with these talented creators!
Ok, so as if that weren’t enough, I have yet another piece of exciting news! I’ve submitted the campaign page for No Spell Lasts Forever #2 for approval, and I should be hearing back from Kickstarter soon. Once it’s approved and the pre-launch page is live, I’ll announce the official launch date for the campaign, so stay tuned!
Also, Eze has finished the cover and it looks so friggin’ gorgeous! I just truly love it so much. I’ll share it with you next week, so keep an eye on your inbox.
As far as comics I’m reading, I finally got around to starting The Depart of Truth (by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds) and OMG I looooove it! Seriously, how is everything Tynion creates so brilliant? It’s funny, it explores some of the themes about societal narratives and truth media that I delve into in Scorned April, but with a completely different framework and approach. And as someone who was a huge X-Files fan as a kid (and honestly, I still am), this story about a couple of underdog government agents fighting a system of corruption and conspiracies struck a very specific nostalgic chord for me. Also, the art style and the lettering are really striking. I’m just really enjoying it all around.
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and X/Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
