Hey Everyone,
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week. As always, feel free to watch my video and/or keep on scrolling for the latest updates.
First of all, I want to thank everyone who found me and subscribed to the Substack via the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Giveaway that I’m hosting! Welcome, I’m so glad to connect with you!
A little about what you can expect if you’re just finding me. In my weekly emails, I’ll share updates about my projects, thoughts about the creative process of making comics, and conversations about comics I’ve been reading. I’ve also got some other ideas for new content planned for the fall that I’ll be sharing soon. And I do giveaways fairly often, and you’ll be the first to hear about all of them.
For anyone who hasn’t entered the giveaway yet, it’s running through August 19. Add your email to get updates from a group of amazing indie creators and you’ll be entered for a chance to win $215 of Spider-Verse merch! Find more details and sign up here.
Ok, as far as project updates, it’s official! I’m pitching my comics! I slowly (and nervously!) began to reach out to editors this week. This whole thing is a process so I’m not sure when I’ll have an update, but I’ll let you know as soon as I do!
One of the biggest hurdles in all this for me has been imposter syndrome. I was actually so nervous to send that first email, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Clicking send just felt far too daunting. So on Tuesday afternoon, I scheduled the email to go out at 9am the next morning. I figured it would be less scary just to not stop the email from going out than it would be to make myself actually send it, lol. And it worked! I highly recommend that method if you have something you’re afraid to send!
As far as comics I’m reading, I just finished Grant Morrison’s Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne (with art by a host of amazing artists). It was a lot of fun to see Bruce going through different time periods. I think Cowboy Bruce was my favorite aesthetically. And it was definitely satisfying to see how everything tied together in the end!
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter (I refuse to call it X!), @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
