Hey Everyone!
Happy Friday! I hope you don’t mind the newsletter is a day late this week. With the holiday I thought I’d push it back. As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep reading for all the updates!
For those of you who celebrated, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Mine was good. After dinner, I had the urge to quote Batman from Long Halloween.
Okay, so I want to give you an update on the status of your rewards if you backed the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1. The surveys have been sent out — they collect your shipping address if you’re getting physical copies of the comic and give you the chance to buy extra add-ons. Most people have turned theirs in, but if you haven’t replied yet, the deadline to do that is December 2. So you’ll want to finish the survey before then to make sure your rewards can be sent to you.
After all the surveys are in, I’ll send out all the digital rewards except for the digital copies of the comic, which will be coming your way around the New Year. And if all goes smoothly, the physical copies should be sent out in February.
I also wanted to mention another exciting campaign going on right now. You know I’m a big sci-fi fan, so it should be no surprise that this one is right up my alley!
It’s Pioneers: Blood & Stars #1, story and art by Peter Taylor and colors by Falk Hänsel. Here’s a little bit about it:
Unlikely Friendships and BIG TEETH as we set a hungry vampire loose on the claustrophobic subterranean streets of a tough mining colony on Saturn's ice-moon Enceladus!
I mean, vampires in space?? If that doesn’t spark your interest, nothing will!
Check out the campaign here.
Another cool thing I wanted to mention is the editing class I’ve been taking virtually through the Kubert School. It’s taught by Mike Marts, formerly of DC, Marvel, and AfterShock, and now Mad Cave. I’ve really enjoyed it because he talks both about what editors are looking for in a pitch, and how an editor approaches a script (as well as a bunch of other great info). I feel like I need to get better at editing my work from a more objective place. In my head, everything makes sense when I’m writing because I know what I’m trying to say, lol. But I want to get better at determining whether my point comes across in the way I want it to for people who aren’t inside my brain. And the class is giving me some helpful tools.
As far as comics I’m reading, it was mostly more Batman: No Man’s Land (find all the creators here) for me this week. I’m up to the second volume. I’m really enjoying seeing where Azrael is at here. In stories like Knightfall, for example, we see Jean-Paul largely being driven by the angry, vengeful aspects of being Azrael. But here he’s trying to be a little gentler, a little kinder. And he has a really sweet, brotherly relationship with Babs, which I love!
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite. And I just joined Hive Social, where you can find me at @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
