Hey Everyone!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep reading for the latest updates.
Ok, so I want to start off with an update about rewards for those of you who backed the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1. I’ll be sending out surveys soon, which will collect shipping addresses if you have physical rewards on the way, and will give you the chance to purchase additional add-ons. But before I can do that, BackerKit, the service I’m sending them through, has to check that my setup has been done correctly so everything goes smoothly. That’s happening as we speak, so hopefully, I’ll get that approval today and I’ll be able to send out those surveys in the next couple of days (fingers crossed!). So keep an eye on your inbox for those.
And after everyone has sent in their surveys, I’ll get the digital rewards sent out — except for the digital copies of the comic, which will be coming your way around the New Year, after Aimée has finalized the colors. Her new flats are looking awesome, by the way!
Also, if you didn’t have a chance to back the campaign but you still want to get the comic, you’re in luck! You can still buy the comic, along with other rewards, through my BackerKit store.
Aside from getting those surveys ready to send, I’ve mostly been working this week on editing my next script. The new comic I’m working on is called Scorned April. I don’t want to say too much about it yet since I’m still in the editing phase, but I’ll give you a quick synopsis. It’s about a journalism student named Reggie who’s investigating a local urban legend and the supposed murder-suicide it involves. As she uncovers the truth about who the real killers are, she discovers that some of the most powerful people in her community have ties to a deadly demon, and she finds herself in their crosshairs.
I’ll definitely keep you updated on that one as it moves forward!
As far as comics I’m reading, I’ve been continuing on with Batman: No Man’s Land (it’s a massive arc with a host of creators you can find here). There’s a really interesting moment with Joker, where he’s talking about how frustrated he is because he doesn’t know what to do in such a lawless environment. He supposedly wants to show the world (and of course Batman especially) that codes and rules and institutions are meaningless. But when he finds himself in a situation that's truly lawless and chaotic, he's miserable because his identity is all about pushing back against order. So when there's no order, who is he? It reminds me of the scene where Heath Ledger's Joker is talking to Harvey Dent and he says, "I'm like a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it." Here, he's found himself in this genuinely chaotic environment but rather than finding some kind of satisfaction in it, he's just even more frustrated. Good stuff!
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
