Hey Everyone!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for all the latest.
So the most exciting thing from the last week was that I tabled at the Emerald City Comic Con in Dayton! I sold some contacts, chatted with some artists, met some impressive cosplayers, and had a great time!
And as always, there’s a lot of project stuff going on, too. Eze is finishing up the colors for the first few pages of No Spell Lasts Forever #2, as well as the standard cover, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
And the artwork for the shorts I’m working on is also looking amazing. Jersain Cast is doing the art for the short I’m submitting to the Negative Space Short Comics Competition and Aimée Hawley is doing the colors and everything is gorgeous! They both do an excellent job of really capturing the eerie, post-apocalyptic mood I was going for.
Alex Guenther is doing the art for the other short I’m working on and stylistically, it’s a 180-degree difference from what Jersain and Aimée are doing, but also so gorgeous! The main characters of that one are a couple of cats, and I love his designs for them!
The pitch document for Scorned April is finally good to go! Woohoo! Of course, I’ll have to make some tweaks to it to meet the various publishers’ requirements, but the basic synopsis, logline, etc. are in good shape now. And I’m editing the pitch for Mayfly, the sci-fi series that I have outlined. And yesterday, I submitted by Stargazer short to the Mad Cave Talent Search. So there’s a lot going on, and I feel like I always have something I need to do. But honestly, it’s a good kind of busyness and I enjoy the projects I’m working on.
Also, the Spider-May: Into the Spider-verse Giveaway that I’m hosting is going on through August 19! Sign up to get updates from some amazing indie comics creators and you’ll be entered to win $215 of Spider-verse merch! Enter here.
As far as comics I’ve been reading, I’m almost finished with Shubeik Lubeik, by Deena Mohamed. It’s a really touching story set in Egypt in a reality where wishes are bottled and sold on a regular basis. It follows a group of characters at very different stages of life and takes a look at how the wishes have impacted them. Her storytelling techniques are really interesting and original, and I highly recommend it!
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
