Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week. I wanted to start off with a HUGE thank you to everyone who has pledged to the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1, and to all of you who have encouraged and supported me in so many ways. The continuing love for the comic is pretty mind-blowing, and it genuinely means so much!
The big news this week is that I’m announcing a new stretch goal! As always, keep on reading and/or check out my video for all the latest!
Ok, so over $2,600 (up from a little over $2,500 at the time the video was recorded, lol) has been pledged to No Spell Lasts Forever #1 so far, which is amazing! And it means that we’ve sprinted right past the stretch goals that were planned for the campaign. So I’m announcing a new stretch goal! When we hit 100 backers, everyone who pledges or has pledged $5 or more will get a digital copy of Hexes #1, written by Simon Birks, with art by Ege Avci and letters by Lyndon White.
It's a 28-page supernatural horror comic, and here's a little more about it:
Brendan was just a boy when he fell deathly ill. Somehow, he lived, but then he moves back into a house he visited when he was younger...
Bad things happen all the time, right? Sometimes they're large and destructive, but mostly they're small and you learn to live with them. And the more you live with them, the more you take the strange and unnatural for granted, inventing reasons for the mysterious happenings in your life.
So if you want to snag a digital copy of your very own, you can pledge to the campaign here.
I also wanted to let you know about a couple of other exciting comics that are live on Kickstarter as we speak!
The first is AER HEAD 1 & 2, a surfer hero sci-fi/comedy, with writing and art by Mindy Indy. Here's a little more about it:
It’s an epic sci-fi/comedy series about Aereo Zephyr, teen surfer and lifeguard, who can sometimes see the future in his dreams. In Issue #1, he predicts a solar flare will wipe out New San Diego -- can he save everyone in time? Aer struggles to grasp the potential of his power, but unwittingly unlocks a clue to figuring it out in Issue #2!
Next, I wanted to let you know about Alpha Dogs. It's written by Jon Dexter, with art by Fernando Melek, colors by Lucas Orueta, and letters by Lucas Urrutia. The comic stars Buck,a dog with the power to heal from most any wound, along with heightened intelligence and strength. Although feared by the public due to his breed and size, Buck is on a quest to stop a murderous dog from hurting humans, all while he is being hunted by Black Rock, a cabal of mercenaries determined to duplicate Buck's abilities. Issue #3 is live on Kickstarter now.
And just a friendly reminder that Concrete Arcanum, the urban fantasy anthology that Sara Setna and I have a story in (called Olive and the Ogre), is live on Kickstarter right now, too.
One of the reward tiers that’s especially exciting is the compendium tier, which includes a digital compendium of around 20 additional comics from creators who contributed to the anthology. I’ve really loved being involved with this book and it would be amazing to see it become a reality. If you’d like to support it and help us bring this 120-page anthology into the world, pledge here.
All righty then (do people still make Ace Ventura references?). As far as comics I’m reading, I’m wrapping up James Tynion IV’s Batman run with Fear State, written primarily by Tynion, as well as Ed Brisson, with art by Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, Joshua Hixson, Bengal, and Christian Ward (and contributions from other impressive creators on some of the tie-in issues). I’m really enjoying it a lot. I’ve decided I’m 100 percent going to cosplay at Miracle Molly at some point!
Also, it’s interesting — and a little unnerving — to see Batman so overtly scared at points. Of course, he finds himself in terrifying situations literally all the time. But he’s usually so cool and collected about it, and doesn’t typically show his fear very much. So seeing him like this feels like a little bit of a shock.
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
