Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for all the latest.
So biggest news as far as projects I’m working on this week is that I’ve been outlining a horror series based on a short I wrote for a Lesser Known Comics anthology. I had a really great conversation with editor James Powell earlier in the week and it helped me get clarity on a lot of things, like where my protagonist needs to be emotionally at the beginning of the story and what kinds of obstacles I need to throw at her to drive the character growth I want her to experience.
Also, a reminder that the pre-launch page for No Spell Lasts Forever #3 is live! As of writing this, I’m at 88 followers. If I could make it to 100 by this time next week, that would be amazing!
Now is a great time to follow the campaign because the more followers it has when it launches, the more the Kickstarter algorithm prioritizes it. So if you’d like to help me do everything possible to set the campaign up for success, following now is an awesome way to do that!
And submissions are open for Faster Than Light: A Sci-Fi Anthology About Family. It’s the project I’m editing with Lesser Known Comics, and I’m accepting submissions through July 31. All instructions are on the submission page. I’d love to see your stories!
As far as comics that have been bouncing around in my head, I was thinking this week about Saga. I wore a Prince Robot IV t-shirt to work recently and two people excitedly came up to me and asked if it was a reference to Saga. It always impresses me how enthusiastic fans of that comic are, and I think it’s because of the memorable art and the nuanced characters. Fiona Staples’s character designs are unbelievably unique. I can’t think of characters who look like hers in any other series. And the way Brian K. Vaughan writes them is masterful. They’re complex, they have layers, and they’re highly relatable and sympathetic. There are a lot of reasons why Saga is so beloved, but I think those are my top two. For more on my thoughts about that, check out my video on Instagram.
Well, that’s it from me for now. As always, you can find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Threads @sarahccomics. Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
