Hey There,
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week. So today is the very last day of the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1! If you haven’t contributed yet and you want to, now is the time to do it ;)
In addition to the comic itself, there are some great rewards, like Elena Ominetti’s variant cover, a digital artist’s ashcan that includes some of Aimée Hawley’s thumbs, pencils, and inks, and a digital writer’s ashcan that has some of my notes and outlines for the series, along with some other good stuff. Check it out here.
And as always, you can keep on reading and/or check out my video for all the latest!
I want to thank everyone who contributed and all of you who shared my posts and gave me advice and encouragement over the last month. I’m truly blown away by the enthusiasm for the comic! Your support means so much to me, so I want to give you all a little gift to say thanks. Next week, I’ll be sharing with you a free digital copy of The Poe Murders #1, written by James Mascia, with artwork by Arti Khan. So be sure to keep an eye on your inbox next Thursday! If your curiosity has been piqued by No Spell Lasts Forever, this one should be right up your alley. Here’s a little about it:
The Edgar Allan Poe stories and poems come together in a single murder mystery. Notes are appearing around the town of Bellgrave, bearing a single word: Nevermore. These notes begin appearing as a string of murders hits the town. Can Inspector Dupin uncover the plot before the whole town is dead?
In other Kickstarter news, Concrete Arcanum was fully funded! It’s the urban fantasy anthology that Sara Setna and I have a story in called Olive and the Ogre. Thank you so, so much to all of you who contributed! It’s a beautiful book with contributions from 35 creators, and I’m super excited for it to be out there in the world! I’ll keep you updated as it moves along.
As far as comics I’m reading, I delved into the first volume of Safe Sex this week. It’s by Tina Horn, with art by Jen Hickman, Michael Dowling, Alejandra Gutiérrez, Tula Lotay, Laurenn McCubbin, Steve Wands, and Chris O’Halloran. I’d call it NSFW with a purpose. It has a pretty profound message about inclusiveness, and about the necessity of fighting fascism. There were a couple of moments that were just devastating emotionally. And the artwork and colors are absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend it!
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
