Hey There,
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! Can you believe we’re just one week away from the end of the campaign for No Spell Lasts Forever #1!? It wraps up at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on November 3, so if you haven’t contributed yet and you want to, now is the time to hop on board! Pledge here.
And as always, feel free to keep on reading and/or check out my video for all the latest!
Ok, first things first. I want to thank all of you so much for contributing, encouraging me, sharing my posts, checking out these emails, and everything else you’ve done to support me over the course of this campaign. It really means so much to me!
With just one week to go, the campaign is getting SUPER CLOSE to $3,000! I’d really, really love to hit that goal. So I’ve decided to hold another giveaway. If we hit $3,000, I’ll randomly select a backer to win a digital $50 Powell’s Books gift card! So if you want to be entered to win, be sure to contribute to the campaign before it ends on November 3.
I also wanted to mention that TOMORROW is the last day for the campaign for Concrete Arcanum. That’s the urban fantasy anthology that Sara Setna and I have a story in. Our story is called Olive and the Ogre and it’s about a young girl living in the big city who doesn’t feel like she belongs anywhere until an ogre unexpectedly crosses her path and they become fast friends. If you haven’t seen it, check out this gorgeous page of Sara’s from the story:
Concrete Arcanum is about two-thirds funded. It's really an impressive project, with 120 pages of urban fantasy goodness from 35 creators. And there are all kinds of cool physical and digital rewards. Check it out before it ends!
And lastly, I wanted to share another campaign that I’m excited about. It’s Sacrimony #1-5, by Matta Sorcier with flats by Nicky Rodriguez. It’s a fantasy drama about love, life, and death. It’s a pretty interesting and unique take on fantasy. I’m a big fan of Tolkienesque high fantasy, but what Matta does is different and really cool. It’s got some great world-building and queer representation, too. Here’s a little more about it:
Khajad was dead. But now she's alive again! So what's the catch? Because with every mysterious resurrection story, there's always a catch. She has no memory of her past, no explanation as to why she has magical powers or why she must hide her newfound peculiar white demon wings from society. Her mother, Yunika, thinks it's best to avoid answering any of Khajad's questions. For now, they must figure out how to survive in the big city of Aldenkirk and find a means of living a normal life. But can their lives ever really be "normal?"
As far as comics I’ve been reading, I finally got back into Saga (by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples)! I bought a copy of Issue #55 when the series came back to shelves, but I wanted to wait until a few issues were out before I dove back in. And then I think I got so caught up in my Scott Snyder Batman binge that I forgot to circle back to Saga, lol. I waited so long that the next trade came out! So I’ve been reading Volume 10 and it has not disappointed! Saga is really close to my heart, like it is for so many of us, and coming back to it has felt like reuniting with old friends! I’ve really been enjoying it.
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
