Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for all the updates.
I want to say thank you again to everyone who contributed to No Spell Lasts Forever #1! And to this whole community. You all supported me in so many ways during the campaign, and it genuinely means so much. So as a little thank-you gift, I wanted to give you all a free digital copy of The Poe Murders #1, by James Mascia and Arti Khan. Download it here.
If you’re into the whole mysterious crime aspect of No Spell Lasts Forever, I think you’ll definitely like The Poe Murders, too. Here’s a little more about it:
The Edgar Allan Poe stories and poems come together in a single murder mystery. Notes are appearing around the town of Bellgrave, bearing a single word: Nevermore. These notes begin appearing as a string of murders hits the town. Can Inspector Dupin uncover the plot before the whole town is dead?
Also, Substack added a new chat feature, so I’ve started a thread there to see how it goes. Just to get the convo going, I asked “What’s your favorite comic that you’ve read this year?” I think it could be fun to have a convenient way to connect with you all more immediately, so let me know if it’s something you think you’d enjoy! Here’s how to find the chat in the app (available for iOS now and Android soon):
Download the app here.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. You’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Stop on by and we’ll talk comics:) And if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
So this week has been a lot of admin for me. I’ve been getting everything ready to start sending out the surveys and then the digital rewards (except for the digital copies of the comic, which will be coming around the end of the year when the art is finalized).
Those surveys will go out soon, but I’m waiting a little longer while Kickstarter follows up on the small handful of pledges that had errors. If you got a message about that, no worries at all, it usually just happens when a card has expired. But you will want to follow up about soon it because TODAY is the last day to update your payment info before Kickstarter drops the pledge.
Otherwise, I’ve been editing the next script I’m working on. I’ve been taking Scott Snyder’s Our Best Jackett writing classes (which are excellent), and he’s accepting scripts that he’ll review in upcoming workshops. So I’m going over my script again today and hopefully I’ll be submitting it later this afternoon. Fingers crossed that he chooses it to review!
As far as comics I’m reading, I finished the second volume of Safe Sex, by Tina Horn and G. Romero-Johnston. It was just as powerful and awesome as the first volume! And I finally got around to starting Batman: No Man’s Land (it’s a massive arc with a host of creators you can find here). It’s one of the classics that I’ve been meaning to get to for a long time. There are a few moments where I feel like Batman and Jim Gordon say things or act in ways that are a little out of character, but for the most part, I’m really enjoying it.
Well, that’s it for me for now! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
