Hey Everyone,
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a good week! As always, feel free to take a gander at my video and/or keep on scrolling for all the news.
Ok, we are so ridiculously close to getting the first issue of No Spell Lasts Forever finished! Aimée is on track to finish up the art within the week! Eeek…I can’t believe it!
Once the art is complete, I’ll put together the digital comic and get it sent to backers ASAP. And the physical copies should be going out later in February.
In other project news…last week I told you about an excellent editing session I had for the next script I’m working on. I realized during the session that, in the rest of my life, I’m someone who needs lots of to-do lists, phone notifications, etc. to keep my thinking organized. And while my outlines for my comics up to this point have been decent, they haven’t been as detailed as my brain probably needs. So over the last week, I created a new outline for the comic, complete with three separate spreadsheets tracking thematic and emotional beats. I’m going to be doing a fair amount of rewriting, and I’m excited to see how it feels with such in-depth outlining to refer to. I’m also curious to see how this process will evolve when I approach other projects in the future. It really feels like this could help me grow as a writer. Fingers crossed!
As far as comics I’ve been reading, I’m up to the fifth volume of Monstress, by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. This comic is just fantastic. In particular, I really love Kippa. That little fox child is the best! She’s really the heart of the cast in a lot of ways. And her dynamic with Maika is great. Maika has a lot of heart deep down, but she often has trouble accessing it — which is understandable given everything she has experienced. But Kippa’s worldview helps Maika start to relate to that part of herself. Plus, Kippa is experiencing a pretty powerful character arc of her own, too. I feel like her confidence grows with each issue! This panel really sums up what I love about her:
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
