Hey Everyone!
I hope you all had a great holiday if you celebrate! Ours was a little hectic because we moved into a new house the week before Christmas! But it was nice to be in our new home for the holiday, and it kind of made the year-end celebrations feel like more of a fresh start :)
As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on reading for all the latest news.
Ok, so last week I recorded from the bedroom because our garage was still in the process of being converted into my sweet new home office. Well, this week, everything is done and I’ve moved into my new workspace, which has been pretty great. I finally have space to display my collectibles!
In No Spell Lasts Forever #1 news, Aimée has finished the flats! Woohoo! Everything looks incredible. The final page of the issue is a splash page and it blew me away! I’d share it with you here but it’s a little spoilery. But here’s another excellent page of flats that I can share. This is page seven.
So this week Aimée is working on the final colors, and I’ll be sure to share some of the beautiful, finished art with you next week! Meanwhile, I’ve been working on the Thank You page and the back cover, and also going over my lettering one more time to make sure everything is good to go as soon as Aimée’s art is complete.
As far as stuff I’ve been reading, I started A Small Light and Other Stories, by Sara Century. You may know Sara as one of the co-hosts of the podcast Bitches on Comics. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s an amazing podcast. Sara, S.E. Fleenor, and Monika Estrella Negra talk with creators each week who are doing really exciting things in the indie world and with the big publishers. They talk a lot about intersectional feminism, the experiences of LGBTQIA creators, anti-racism, and how these topics inform comics. It’s really great!
A Small Light is a collection of short horror stories. I’ve just read the first three so far but I’ve really enjoyed them. She writes a kind of horror that starts off by sort of eerily bubbling under the surface, and then erupting later on — at least with the stories I’ve read so far. So if you’re a horror fan, check it out!
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, Twitter, @sarahcookewrite, and Hive Social, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
