Hey There!
I hope you’re having a great week. I’ve got a couple of exciting things to share with you this week! As always, feel free to check out my video update and/or continue reading.
Ok, first up, the wonderful artist I’m working with on No Spell Lasts Forever, Aimee Hawley, has finished the first handful of pages and they look amazing! Like seriously, they look so good. The artwork is everything I imagined in my head but better. To give you little sneak preview, here’s page four:
Look at that purple magic effect! Look at those colors! Look at that beautiful rain! I’m so happy right now. I’ll be doing the lettering, so I’ll share some of the lettered pages a little later. And keep an eye on my Instagram, I’ll be sharing the pencils and flats for these pages so you can see how Aimee progressed with the artwork.
I highly recommend you check out Aimee’s other work on her Instagram and her website. She’s super talented!
Now, onto the second exciting thing for this week. With No Spell Lasts Forever and some other comics projects I've got in the works, I've been pretty involved in the world of urban fantasy lately. So I connected with an awesome group of urban fantasy comics creators on Facebook who had a pretty great idea. Since we're all in the same genre, there's a good chance our followers will be interested in what each of us is doing. So as a way to connect our own followers with the work of the other excellent creators in the group, we put together a giveaway.
Just click here to enter your email for a chance to win $300 worth of Doctor Strange merch, including books, games, Funkos, and other fun stuff!
You'll also get free digital comics, exclusive interviews, and more sent to your inbox from the participating indie creators.
Aside from giving out cool merch, our hope is that these giveaways (there will be more) will help connect potential fans with indie creators they’ll love.
As far as comics I’m reading this week, I’m all caught up now on The Joker by James Tynion IV, Guillem March, and Arif Prianto. The final issue drops on June 28 and I don’t know if I can wait that long! As a big Jim Gordon fan, I’ve absolutely loved this series and I’m so excited to see how it ends.
I’ve also been reading Middlewest by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, and Jean-Francois Beaulieu. I’m enjoying the writing style. It almost feels like a fable of sorts, or like a grown-up Where the Wild Things Are. And Beaulieu’s colors are stunning. I’m eight issues in and can’t wait to read the rest!
As always, I’d love to connect with you on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic.
Best,
Sarah
