Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! As always, feel free to watch my video and/or keep on reading for the latest updates.
So what I’m most excited about this week is my conversations with a couple of amazing creators. I chatted with Anna Peterson in Instagram Live about her comic Rifters. And I caught up with James Burton for my YouTube show, Comics Chat. We talked about his love for James O’Barr’s The Crow, and his own comic, Damage Inc. I’ve been doing a lot of these conversations over the last month or so and it has just been really lovely to connect with other creators about the things they’re passionate about. Please check out these chats — all of the creators I’ve talked with have had such insightful things to say!
Also, Episode 2 of No Spell Lasts Forever #2 is now available for free to read on my Substack and on GlobalComix! Check it out! After all of Rosette’s drama with Lucifer, Elspeth jumps into the fray.
Otherwise, I’ve been doing a lot of writing this week. Like I’ve mentioned in previous emails, I’ve been reworking Scorned April to be a shorter series, and I finished the first draft of the newly reworked Issue #1 this week. I’ve still got some editing to do, but it’s feeling a lot more streamlined and intentional this time around. I feel a lot clearer about who my main character, Reggie, really is as a person — what motivates her, and how she sees herself.
And as far as comics I’m reading, I just read Women of Marvel Vol. 5 yesterday and really enjoyed it. It’s something I look forward to every year, and this year’s installation was no different. The story that stood out the most for me was Gail Simone’s — which isn’t surprising, I love everything she does. But they were all great. What I enjoyed about it is that it didn’t shy away from poking fun at the trolls who criticize Marvel for giving more prominence to its women characters — the people who call the MCU the M-she-U. But it tackled the subject in a way that was really funny and breezy, which is not an easy thing to do. If you haven’t checked it out, I recommend it!
Well, that’s it from me for now. As always, you can find me on Twitter and Instagram @sarahccomics. Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
