Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’ve been having a good week. First, I want to say thank you again to Kyle Roberts, Rafael Romeo Magat, and Ilaria Fella, the creators of PARENT/GUARDIAN, for generously letting me share the first issue of their comic with my audience. If you downloaded it from last week’s email and read it, I’m sure you enjoyed it! And if you haven’t checked it out yet…go back to your inbox and read it right now! You’ll thank me ;)
To see the sketches for page two of Olive and the Ogre, keep scrolling. And as always, feel free to keep on reading and/or check out my video update for all of my news.
Okay, so here’s the preview you came here for! The sketches for page two of Olive and the Ogre — along with the inks that you may have seen on my Instagram. Olive is the four-page story I wrote that will be appearing in the anthology Concrete Arcanum!
The artwork is by Sara Setna. And if you think this is awesome (which it is!), trust me when I say her final artwork is just gorgeous. I can’t wait for you all to see the finished pages when the anthology comes out! The crowdfunder for that will launch on September 12, and you can click here to sign up to be notified when it goes live.
Also, check out more of Sara’s art on her Instagram and her ArtStation page.
In No Spell Lasts Forever news, this has been another week for me that’s mostly been about preparing for the crowdfunder. I’ve been writing campaign emails and creating my reward tiers, stretch goals, and early-bird specials. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also exciting because it means we’re getting closer to the campaign actually happening, and the comic becoming a reality!
Also, I’ve been starting to plan out the campaign video, and Aimee Hawley will likely contribute to it, talking a little about her creative process. So you’ll get to hear from her and not just me! Yay!
Aimee is continuing to work on pencils for the next group of pages and, as always, they look fantastic! Check out more of Aimee’s work on her Instagram and her website. And sign up here to be notified when the crowdfunder launches in the fall.
As far as comics I’ve been reading, I’m still on Batman: Eternal but I’m up to the second volume. It’s by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Ray Fawkes, Kyle Higgins, Tim Seeley, R.m. Guera, Fernando Pasarin, and Jason Fabok. It’s a pretty massive story with a lot of impressive creators involved, and you can read all about it on the DC Fandom wiki.
Okay, I promise I won’t go on and on again about how much it breaks my heart that Jim Gordon is still in Blackgate. But seriously, it’s devastating. It’s a big story with a lot of moving parts, but they’re all coming together in ways that are really satisfying. Here’s one of my favorite moments. It’s Jason teasing Tim because he thinks he likes Harper Row.
I mean, Alfred’s not the only one who’d enjoy more of these moments between Tim and Jason. I’m definitely here for more of the two of them lovingly making fun of each other!
Well, I think that’s it for me this week. As always, I’d love to connect with you on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
