Hey Everyone!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re all having a great week! As always, feel free to check out my video and/or keep on scrolling for all my updates.
So this week was pretty exciting because I started shipping out physical copies of No Spell Lasts Forever #1! Woohoo! The first batch is on its way to Kickstarter backers. Of course, I’ve still got more copies to send. And like I mentioned last week, the variant should be arriving in my hands at the end of this week, so I’ll start shipping those out late this week/early next week. But it feels really good to have made it to this point in the process! All the work that went into making this comic has led here, and now it’s a physical thing that exists in the world, that readers can hold in their hands and add to their collections. Honestly, it’s a pretty great feeling :)
I’ve also been continuing to work on what’s hopefully the final draft of the next comic I’m writing, Scorned April. With each draft, I feel like it’s getting stronger, and I think every round of editing teaches me something as a writer. I’m up to the last issue, and after it’s done, I’ll be meeting with my editor to go over it once more, then I’ll probably make some final edits. And at that point, I’d like to find an artist who’d be interested in doing a handful of pages so I can pitch it around.
As far as comics I’ve been reading, I circled back to the second volume of The Nice House on the Lake, by James Tynion IV, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, and Jordie Bellaire. I think Walter is a really interesting character. He thinks what he does to save his friends is so benevolent. And it’s true on one hand that it seems like he doesn’t really have a lot of options. But he’s also trying to control his friends’ actions, and even their emotional responses, and he doesn’t realize the gravity of what he’s doing. Or maybe he does, but he doesn’t admit it to himself. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed this series!
Well, that’s it for me this week! As always, you can find me on Instagram, @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic, and Twitter, @sarahcookewrite.
Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
