Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! As always, feel free to watch my video and/or keep on reading for the latest updates.
The exciting news this week is that I launched my new YouTube show, Comics Chat! I chat with comics creators and fans about their favorite comics and why they love them, as well as their own projects. I’ve really been loving these conversations, and I’m having a great time chatting with folks about the comics that inspire them.
The first is a conversation with artist Lydia Monette of Life on Saturn Comics. We chat about Faithless, by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet. Lydia is an artist and I loved her take on how striking the art is, and what makes it stand out for her. She also talks about the more risque parts of the comic and how powerful those moments are.
The second is a chat with Dom Monette, also of Life on Saturn. We talk about the comic adaptation of Batman Forever, by Dennis O’Neil, Michal Dutkiewicz, Scott Hanna, and Adrienne Roy. Dom points out the fact that there are some really deep themes running through the story that get a chance to shine in different ways in the comic.
Aside from the interviews, I’ve been working on Scorned April and Mayfly this week. With Scorned April, I’ve finished the broad, revised outline for the shorter version of the series. I’ve got the major plot and emotional beats charted out, and now I’m moving on to writing the more detailed, issue-by-issue synopsis.
And with Mayfly, I’ve finished the first draft of Issue #2 and sent it to the wonderful editor Brittany Matter for feedback. I’m really enjoying writing this series. There are still some little things here and there that I’m working out and some frustrating parts, as always. But for the most part I feel like I have better footing than I have in the past, which is encouraging.
As far as comics I’m reading, I’m getting ready to dive into The Deviant #4, by James Tynion IV and Joshua Hixson, which I’m planning to read tonight. I’ve talked about it before but I’ll say it again — I love this series! Largely because it feels so emotionally raw and vulnerable.
And I mean, with Blue Book, W0rldtr33, Dracula, The Department of Truth, Something is Killing the Children, and Christopher Chaos, it is truly James Tynion’s world, we’re just living in it. Not that I’m complaining, I’ll read literally anything he writes.
Well, that’s it from me for now. As always, you can find me on Twitter and Instagram @sarahccomics. Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
