Hey There!
Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great week! As always, feel free to watch my video and/or keep on reading for the latest updates.
Last night, I went on Instagram live with Will Allred to chat about about his series Crossover Division, which is live on Kickstarter. Check out our really lovely conversation here. And here’s a little about the comic:
When stories come to life and threaten to fracture reality beyond repair, only an English professor and a research librarian have the knowledge and smarts to save us all.
Will and I had a great conversation. Head over to @sarahccomics on Insta to check it out. Back when I first started making comics and joined the ComixLaunch group, Will was one of the first creators to offer advice. I was asking *a lot* of questions in that group in those days because I had so much to learn, and Will consistently responded with helpful suggestions and information. So I was happy to have the chance to help him share his awesome comic!
This week, I also posted Episode 3 of Comics Chat! I caught up with Raymond Griffith, the artist behind Astounding Tales — which is live on Kickstarter — among many other exciting projects. We talked about Jeff Smith's Bone. Raymond had some really interesting things to say about the economy of Smith's art style, and how sometimes all it takes is a few strokes to create a lot of emotion. What’s also cool is that Bone is really one of those foundational comics for Raymond that impacted his art in important ways, and it’s really such a pleasure to talk with creators about the comics that have affected them in that way.
Other than recording some really fun interviews, I’ve been rolling around ideas and slightly tweaking the outline for Scorned April and Issue #2 of Mayfly. It’s funny how even when I think I’m done editing, I’m not. My brain can’t stop churning these stories over and over, reworking a little puzzle piece here or there. I think a lot of writers are the same way.
As far as comics I’ve been reading, it’s been all about Harrow County this week, by Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook. It’s a fantastic horror story with some really imaginative supernatural creatures, like a skinless boy whose skin as a consciousness of its own and ghosts that look like flaming skeletons. I also love that it stars a couple of young women, Emmy and Bernice, who are just so compelling. I’m about halfway through the series and I can’t put it down!
Well, that’s it from me for now. As always, you can find me on Twitter and Instagram @sarahccomics. Have a great day!
Best,
Sarah
