Hey There,
Happy Thursday! If you saw my email on Monday or you follow me on social, you know there’s something exciting happening today! The very talented artist and writer John Edingfield II generously shared his 52-page comic, Rancidville: A Sour Beginning, with my audience! Anyone who was a subscriber as of last night was emailed instructions for how to download it. As always, you can check out my video update for more info on that.
I connected with John in the ComixLaunch group on Facebook, a community that was built up around the online course of the same name, created by Tyler James. The course teaches audience building and crowdfunding techniques for indie comics creators. It has been an incredible resource for me, and everyone in the group is so knowledgeable and supportive. Communities like this one really are so important if you’re trying to do anything creative!
Now, a little more info about Rancidville. It tells the story of Nathaniel Wicket, who moves to a junkyard in an unfamiliar town with his estranged uncle. Instantly making new friends with Alice Martin and Shane Hines, the trio soon discovers a conspiracy within the greedy town council and a deeper mystery involving the Guardian of the city, Nathaniel's uncle, and his parents. I highly recommend checking it out here.
And in other comics news, I finally got around to starting Something is Killing the Children, by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. It’s extremely creepy, and definitely unsettling at times, but I’m loving it so far. If you like horror comics, check it out! I’m a big fan of Tynion’s writing in general, and he definitely doesn’t disappoint here!
If you’re on Instagram, I’d love to connect with you there. Find me @sarahcookewriter and @nospellcomic. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Sarah
